Acting on Your Dreams (Like, for real.)
THIS DOES NOT MEAN HITTING THE SNOOZE BUTTON.
(Even though I do it all of the time.)
What gets you out of bed in the morning? Is it your dog? Your job? Your stomach? The sunrise?
What motivates you to dream bigger, get out of your comfort zone, and say yes to a new opportunity?
Have you ever had those mornings, where you just can't wait to get your day started, because you know you're going to love what you’re doing that day? Your heart will beat faster, your body will be brimming with happiness, and you’ll do at least five happy dances? Isn’t that like, the best feeling?
Those are the days that we visualize about. Those are the days we strive for. Those are the days where we are our most authentic selves, and feel as if we are on top of the world.
I would love to live everyday like that, but as of right now, I don't think those days are as consistent as I’d like them to be. While we can strive for a majority of our days to be that way, we will still end up with a few not-so-glorious days. But guess what? It's okay! It's great, actually! Without the down-days we wouldn't realize how amazing the magical & abundant days are! And what's even better about the whole situation of life, is that during those down days, we can still act on our dreams.
In fact, acting on our dreams during the “mundane” days actually builds a foundation made of hard work, relationships, and positive habits that can potentially turn most of your down days into the really great ones. And by acting on your dreams each day, whether you take baby steps or giant leaps, you will be inspired and fulfilled when you go to sleep at night. (Which, sounds like a pretty great day to me.)
Now, I’m talking pretty general here, but hopefully by this point you’ve got an idea in your mind of what pulls you out of bed; toward your teapot or coffee machine each morning.
For me, it’s a mixture of things. When I roll out of bed, the light of day is my first inspiration. If I see the sun and breathe in the fresh morning air, I will then fill up my gas tank by connecting with my inner self. When I make my breakfast, I think of my health and how I’d like to physically feel that day. Usually fruits and veggies are at the top of my list. Then, I either get ready for work or get ready for a day of work at home. I make my to do list that contains anything from school work, to house chores to creative projects. But my priorities always lie in what will make me happy that day, and what will satisfy my craving for smiles, adventure, connection, and helping others. And so by acting, daily, on the tasks that will support my happiness, goals and ideas, I am acting on my dreams. And before I know it, I’m waking up on the right side of the bed and practically skipping to the kitchen. And those are the days worth living for.
So we cannot be afraid to try new things that scare us, or turn down an opportunity because we don’t feel we are ready. We must take action every day in order to see positive change in our lives. We must use our creativity when things get tough. And we must remember who or what makes us take a deep breath, open our eyes, and live the life we dream of, every single day.
TODAY I challenge you to:
Brainstorm for five minutes about the main areas of your dream life. Get creative! Think about the best and most wonderful version of your life!
Write down actions that you can do today. If they are over ten to twenty minutes each, break them down into smaller tasks.
Then, pick just two 10 minute tasks that will help you reach your goals.
Trust me, it’ll be worth every minute.
I’m looking forward to hearing about all those checked off boxes...
